Our Tent

So one day as I was scrolling through Pintrest, I saw this tent that you could buy, kinda like this one:

I thought that was a cool idea, and moved on. Well I found myself thinking about that tent and how I could make one for Derek, and told myself I would try it this weekend. Well we got busy and I got tired and on Sunday night when I was all out of playtime activities, I came back to the tent idea. Knowing that we had some tension roofs left over from the old house and curtains, this tent was born:

As I was getting ready to set it up, Derek asked me what I was making him, and I told him it was a surprise, and he says "are you making me a tent?" I was blown away that he guessed it! I had not even started to put it together. 
I told him I was indeed making a tent, and here is our tent. 



Derek loves his tent, and he asked if he could sleep, play and eat strawberries in his tent. Since it was a Sunday night, I had to say no to sleeping In it, but I was so glad I could say yes to his other 20 request! 
I can't wait for the weekend to get here so we can spend some quality time in our tent.

Since I have taken a long break I feel doing three things on each of us would be a good catch up.  Derek loves to tell stories, he likes to embellish every detail, and throw in a good laugh every chance he gets. He loves to incorporate current things with fiction, and it is best listening to what he will come up with.  He is the kindest kid I know. He cares so much about so many things and he loves to help others. On his birthday weekend in Dallas, he saw a lady taking out the trash and he went over there and helped her pick up the trash lid, I have never been so pleased with my kiddo.  We did Young Writes this year, and to witness him blossom through his creativity was so much fun. He loves to draw, color, and put his imagination on paper. WOW his vocabulary has really blossomed this year. Recap of the last month

WOW, where has the time gone? This last month has been crazy busy and hectic at work, plus I am taking a class, so all my free time, wait what free time...... I am back online, for an overview of all things that happened this past month. Dylan turned 13 months old and is finding his courage to take a few steps, but he isn't walking yet. Here is our 13-month-old. He can say nanna for Banana and will eat one every day if you let him. He can also say Mamma, Dadda, nigh nigh and wave bye-bye. He has 4 teeth and working on two more top teeth. Right before Thanksgiving Derek got really sick, well I say really sick, it was a 48-hour thing, but for Derek, it was really sick. Due to his fever being high, we decided to take him to the ER, which wasn't the best idea, but we felt like we needed to keep him safe. This trip reminded me why I HATE hospitals. but my kids come first and always will. The next day we stayed home from school and work, just to make sure he was feelin...

Separation Anxiety for Parents

We have all heard that kids get separation anxiety when they have to leave their parents and it can become a big deal. I remember when Derek started daycare and he had really bad anxiety and was constantly upset. I thought it was from all the changes that were happening to him at once, and I am sure some of that was the case, but Derek was struggling with separation anxiety.  I also had a hard time with it, with all the changes that took place, and we would both cry, but I assumed it would get better. For me, I felt like I loved him so much, and as an adult, this was part of it. Well, this past weekend, I realized that I struggle with separation anxiety, and it isn’t just a kid struggle. There have been many times I have had to leave my kids, and anytime I do, I immediately feel sick to my stomach, and want to cancel all my plans.  Of course, you are not able to do that, but I always cry and feel horrible about it.
